Carrying Forward Excellence: The 2026 Wilmer Hicks Memorial Scholarships

The Cobb Schools Foundation is honored to recognize The Wilmer Hicks Memorial Scholarships. The Wilmer Hicks Memorial Scholarship stands as a tribute to a man whose life reflected the values of hard work, education, and service to others. Mr. Hicks believed deeply in the power of opportunity and the importance of investing in young people who show determination and character. His legacy lives on through this scholarship, which continues to open doors for students as they prepare to pursue their passions and build meaningful careers.


Through the Cobb Schools Foundation, the Wilmer Hicks Memorial Scholarship will provide two, $500 awards to graduating seniors at both Osborne High School and Campbell High School. These scholarships are designed to recognize students who demonstrate academic achievement, strong attendance, and a clear vision for their future.


At Osborne High School, the scholarship supports students pursuing careers in Business or Finance. By lifting up young leaders with a passion for these fields, the award reflects Mr. Hicks’ own belief in financial literacy, responsibility, and leadership as tools for success.


At Campbell High School, the scholarship supports students with a commitment to Culinary Arts. This award highlights the creativity, discipline, and dedication required to succeed in the food industry—skills that mirror Mr. Hicks’ respect for perseverance and craftsmanship.


Students at both schools must maintain a weighted 3.0+ GPA, have no more than five unexcused absences during their senior year, and submit a short essay describing their passion for their chosen career path.


More than a financial award, the Wilmer Hicks Memorial Scholarship serves as a lasting reminder of one individual’s dedication to lifting up others. By supporting future business leaders and culinary innovators, this scholarship ensures that Mr. Hicks’ spirit of excellence, service, and community impact will continue to inspire generations to come.

Dr. Kathie Elliott devoted 33 years of dedicated service to the Cobb County School District, leaving a lasting impact on students, educators, and future leaders across the district. Her career began in the classroom as an elementary school teacher and evolved into school leadership, where she served as principal at Eastside Elementary, Varner Elementary, and Kennesaw Elementary. Along the way, Dr. Elliott also shared her expertise in Human Resources, supporting and strengthening the district from multiple perspectives. Even after retiring, Dr. Elliott’s passion for developing others never slowed. She continued to mentor and coach aspiring school leaders through Berry College and supervised student teachers through Kennesaw State University—ensuring that the next generation of educators was prepared, confident, and inspired. In honor of her remarkable legacy, the Dr. Kathie Elliott Scholarship was established to support current Cobb County School District employees who are continuing their educational journeys to advance professionally. This scholarship is designed to uplift those who are investing in their growth and expanding their impact within the district. Eligible applicants may be pursuing: A GED Paraprofessional certification Specialized credentials related to their current role Other educational pathways that enhance skills and career opportunities within CCSD Each scholarship award is $1,000 and may be applied toward tuition, certification fees, or other approved educational expenses.
